Gall Bladder Cancer

Description: Gallbladder cancer is a cancer that starts in the gallbladder, a small organ located under the liver that stores bile. Bile helps digest fat in the small intestine. 

Signs and Symptoms: 

  • Pain in the upper right abdomen,?especially after eating fatty foods 
  • Lump in the upper right abdomen 
  • Nausea and vomiting 
  • Loss of appetite 
  • Fever 
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice) 

Diagnosis: 

  • Ultrasound:?Uses sound waves to create images of the gallbladder 
  • CT scan:?Creates detailed cross-sectional images of the abdomen 
  • Cholangiography:?X-ray of the bile ducts using contrast dye 
  • Biopsy:?Removing a small tissue sample for examination under a microscope 

Treatment Options: 

  • Surgery:?To remove the gallbladder and part of the liver (cholecystectomy) 
  • Chemotherapy:?Uses drugs to kill cancer cells throughout the body 
  • Radiation therapy:?In some cases,?radiation therapy may be used after surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells
